[Project 8] Allatonceness

图片
T he final project I collaborated with Kepler is a soundscape, and the thesis is to make four pieces of music for each “Air” “Fire” “Earth” “Water”. The inspiration is that we were talking about constellation, and we had an idea to write different songs for different personalities. In the “Air”, we can feel the feeling of vivaciousness, so their personalities are adaptable, lively and communicative. “Fire” sounds very intense, their personalities are outgoing and adventurous. “Water” sounds a little bit melancholy, because we added minor key to it, so their personalities are emotionally rich, dedicate minded and romantic. “Earth” sounds firm, and their personalities are down-to-earth, perfectionist, and detail-oriented.   O ur division of work is that I did the part of tune for “Water”, because I like this kind of quiet music, I am a little bit good at this kind of music. Kepler did the tune for “Air” “Fire” “Earth”, and then we worked together to add some finer things to those songs

[Project #5] Inkjet Prints for Gallery Exhibition

图片
I used these two pictures for the gallery exhibition.    When I did the print work , the printer always showed an error with the paper, but I didn't find any problems with the location or operation, so much so that I spent three days to deal with it. But finally I done. I first edited the picture inside Photoshop and added a white border to the picture. I think this will look good after framing and will make viewers' eyes focus on the middle picture. When I placed the pictures in the gallery today, I did the proofreading for the first time: I measured the distance between each picture to make them look neater.   This is my second time to make an exhibition in the gallery, so I had an experience for that. I’m very happy that I can help others in this process. Also, I feel excited to join the exhibition with so many great pictures.

[Project #7] Research Report

My project is to introduce Jean-Luc Godard, who is a film director, screenwriter, and film critic.   When I was looking for information about this director, I found out that he was one of the first people of the New Wave, so I wanted to put his "new" and McLuhan's "new" together. In the process of thinking about it, I went to see the director's first film, Breathless, and at first I didn't see anything different or new about it. But when I remembered that he made such a film in 1960, I thought it was a great film. At that time, I thought it was a very powerful innovation. It's also because the general public is now using this kind of editing technique that I didn't think his film was special, which is why it shows Jean-Luc Godard's specialness and innovation. McLuhan's <The Medium is the Massage> also shows his innovation, and his ideas were ahead of their time and new in the society. Also in the present society, we will find that m

[Project #6] Everything We Do (Is Music) Soundscape

“Listeners could memorize with greater ease what was sung than what was said.” (McLuhan 114) For me, sound is the main source of my memory. If I hear a piece of music at a certain point in time, then when I hear it again, I can remember what happened at that time.  This is an amazing ability for me. I believe many people can feel this way. 1-min sound here This piece of music was wrote during a very quiet and beautiful afternoon during my reading period. It reminds me of the light music I listened to when I was in junior high school. Our teacher played light music for us everyday when we were in the break time after lunch. Its emotional changes are quite obvious, at first it was like just getting up, everything was quiet. Slowly the music became beautiful, warm and a little bit sad, like walking to a forest hut with a stove on a snowy winter night. This is actually my own problem. When I feel warm, it always accompanied by the feeling of sad. Although it is a bit inexplicable, this

Reflection of Artist Talk 2—Gina Adams

Treaty with The New York Indians - Front (Photos from Gina Adams's Website ) "For me this discovery signified the need to educate people about the existence of the treaties, making it personal so that more will take up the cause of honoring the treaties." ---Gina Adams (Quote from Gina Adams's  Website ) Just like Gina said, if I hadn't watched her artist talk, I might not know these regulations and the stories behind them. People need to know these things. As an artist, turning these historical regulations into works of art will attract our attention. When I was attending the artist talk, I was attracted when I first saw the words on these quilts. Every quilts' color and hand-made words attracted my attention and made me want to read it carefully. Therefore, we need such artists to speak for the trauma of history.  I really like her "requirement" of vision for wearing Medallions. Hope that everyone who wears Medallions can abide by these rules and m

[Project #3] Something is Happening

图片
This photo is composed of three pictures of the same squirrel. Because of the synthesis, it looks like a squirrel running away and slowly becoming transparent. Give me a feeling of disappearing while running. I named this picture: "The Earth" because of the sentence "The stars are so big, The earth is so small." ( McLuhan 79 ) I thought, if I look at the earth from the perspective of a certain star, The earth is such a small one. "Professionalism is environmental. Amateurism is anti-environmental." ( McLuhan 93 ) As an artist, the perspective of seeing the world is always different from that of others. This sentence gave me such an inspiration. So, I photographed the upside-down corridor, Try to find some novel pictures in life. “Because something is happening, but you don’t know what it is.” ( McLuhan 105 ) All these pictures and shooting experience made me understand that if I look at the world from a different perspective, I will gain a lot of different

[Project #2] 1-minute video

图片
https://youtu.be/BqII-lWvVIA   This video is a story come up by using original footage. When I was on the plane, I took a lot of beautiful scenery, and I wanted to use the scenery in front of me to cut out a dream about one of my daily life. This video contains the song I played while wearing headphones on the plane, and the sound of the bell on my headphone box. All these show that I am actually in a dream.  There is also one thing that I have been thinking about. A day in my dream is actually only time for a three-minute song. This is a question that I think about every time I wake up from a dream.  The inspiration for this video is because "'Time' has ceased, 'Space' has vanished." ( McLuhan  63) Seeing this sentence, I think about that can these three minutes also be expressed as the speed of change in our current era? Imagine if you were a person who lived in 1921 and imagine how far away 2021 is, but in our eyes, this century has been very fast and has c
